Discover the life, legacy, and enduring words of acclaimed poet Paul Laurence Dunbar in this interactive Restorative Poetics workshop. Participants will read and reflect on selected Dunbar poems, learn about the experiences that shaped his work, and respond to creative writing prompts inspired by themes of identity, resilience, belonging, and the power of voice. No previous writing experience is necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
Presented in conjunction with Dunbar: Kansas City’s First Black Suburb, currently on view at The Museum of Kansas City, the workshop also invites participants to consider the connection between Dunbar’s literary legacy and the Kansas City neighborhood that carries his name.
