Position Title: Barista/Culinary Associate for Elixir
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Museum of Kansas City is looking to hire Baristas/Culinary Associates for Elixir, the Museum’s
Soda Fountain area—a 690 square foot café that seats 18-20 people. It is located Downstairs at
Corinthian Hall adjacent to a prep kitchen and on the same floor as the Billiard Room,
restrooms, and a catering kitchen.
Elixir serves: 1) a menu of grab-and-go pre-packaged and ready-to-serve food and beverage
items including salads, charcuterie plates, cookies, chips, sodas and other carbonated
beverages, juices, and more; and 2) a menu of prepared food and beverage items including ice
cream scoops, sundaes, phosphates, coffee and espresso drinks, tea, wine, beer, select
cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks.
Customers may purchase food and beverages and eat in Elixir or on the grounds of the Museum
(weather permitting) or they may take their items to go.
Elixir is open a total of 19.5 hours per week as follows:
Thursday from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. (4 hours)
Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (5.5 hours)
Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (5.5 hours)
Sunday from Noon to 4:30 p.m. (4.5 hours)
Elixir’s hours and menu will increase strategically over time.
The Barista/Culinary Associate primarily will be responsible for daily opening and closing
procedures; making and serving espresso, coffee, and tea beverages, alcoholic beverages, ice
cream scoops, sundaes, phosphates, etc.; serving prepackaged and ready to serve foods (i.e.
sandwiches, salads, cookies, muffins, pastries, etc.); restocking supplies and keeping track of
inventory; operating café equipment; using the point-of-sale system to process purchases;
cleaning protocols; and maintain City of Kansas City, MO Health Department standards. Some
food preparation will so be required, such as creating charcuterie boards, sandwiches, baking
cookies, etc.
On occasion, this position will also work exhibit opening receptions, special museum hosted
events, and private venue rentals. The Barista/Culinary Associate must be able to work Thursday – Sunday when Elixir is open.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position. The anticipated hours are 10-20 per week with a
starting hourly rate of $16/hour. This hourly compensation does not include tips, i.e., all tips are
in addition to the hourly wage.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years in the restaurant industry.
- Prior server training and alcohol responsibility training and current food handler license
preferred. - Experience being a barista and a bartender, making espresso drinks and alcoholic
beverages. - Knowledge of point-of-sale systems and opening and closing procedures.
- Experience working in a fast-pasted environment, being part of a team, and multi-tasking.
- Exceptional customer service.
- Must be 21 years old

Position Title: Visitor Experience Associate
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Museum of Kansas City is seeking a dynamic, customer-focused Visitor Experience Associate to join our team. This part-time, non-exempt position serves as the first point of contact for visitors at the Museum’s Admission Desk in Corinthian Hall.
The Visitor Experience Associate will greet, assist, and provide information to guests, process admissions, and ensure a welcoming atmosphere. The anticipated work schedule is 15-20 hours per week at a starting rate of $17 per hour.
Museum Hours of Operation:
- Thursday: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Sunday: Noon to 5:00 p.m.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greet and welcome visitors, providing information on exhibits, events, and Museum offerings.
- Maintain knowledge of current exhibitions and the Museum’s history, utilizing available resources.
- Direct visitor inquiries to appropriate staff, or independently address inquiries and issues when necessary.
- Answer phone calls, take messages, and route calls to the appropriate departments.
- Provide coverage at the Admissions Desk and Wisteria, the Museum’s Boutique (experience with point-of-sale equipment is a plus).
- Assist with museum events, programs, and exhibits as needed.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree or college coursework in Museum Studies preferred.
- 3+ years of customer service experience.
- Experience in fast-paced environments, multitasking, and collaborating as part of a team.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems.
- Exceptional customer service skills and a welcoming demeanor.
