The Fairy Princess

The Fairy Princess: A Kansas City Tradition Since 1935

The Museum of Kansas City is delighted to welcome back The Fairy Princess, one of Kansas City’s most treasured holiday traditions. Guests will once again experience the magic in the Museum’s Betty Milbank Waldrop Salon; an elegant Louis XVI French salon located on the first floor of historic Corinthian Hall.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of The Museum of Kansas City hosting The Fairy Princess, continuing a beloved tradition that began at Kline’s Department Store in 1935. Originally created to celebrate the opening of Kline’s famous “Toyland” Department, The Fairy Princess delighted generations of Kansas City children through the early 1970s.

In 1987, the Kansas City Museum revived this cherished tradition, ensuring that new generations could experience its magic. Nearly four decades later, The Fairy Princess continues to welcome children into a setting worthy of her story—a place where imagination, wonder, and holiday memories come to life.
