This installment of the film series explores the impact of real estate and federal policies on urban communities. Inspired by Richard Rothstein’s book The Color of Law, this film focuses on Kansas City’s Highway 71 project and reveals how the city’s urban renewal efforts displaced 10,000 families.
Community Historian and Educator, Erik Stafford will lead a discussion following the film. In 2009 Erik started the Kansas City Tour Company and began conducting tours of the historic sites in the Kansas City area and creating interactive presentations that allow people to make the connections between the past, present, and future. He is the author of Script From 12th to 18th Street a condensed, factual account of Jim Crow Segregation in the Heart of America. Erik has also been featured in The New York Times in an article entitled On a Civil Rights Trail Essential Sights and Indelible Detours.
