This installment of the film series explores the impact of real estate and federal policies on urban communities. Inspired by Richard Rothstein’s book The Color of Law, this film focuses on Kansas City’s Highway 71 project and reveals how the city’s urban renewal efforts displaced 10,000 families.
Dr. Jacob Wagner, Associate Professor of Urban Planning & Design, and faculty co-founder of the Center for Neighborhoods (CFN) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Since 2020, Dr. Wagner has worked with the Museum of Kansas City team to advise and assist on the development of exhibitions and programs related to the history of Kansas City’s diverse, urban neighborhoods.
Dr. Wagner has published research in the Journal of Planning History, the Journal of Planning Education and Research, Cityscape: HUD’s Journal of Policy Development and Research, the Journal of Urban Design, and the Journal of Urbanism. He is a member of the editorial board of the international Journal of Urban Design.
