In September 2020, hundreds of volunteers came together with designs created by six Black artists to paint Black Lives Matter murals across Kansas City. 6 Streets tells the story of those murals—how they were created, the communities that shaped them, and the conversations they inspired about justice, belonging, and equity.
Presented in partnership with Kansas City PBS, this special screening will be followed by a conversation with featured artist Michael Toombs. A painter, educator, and founder of Storytellers Inc., Toombs is widely recognized for his vibrant community murals and his work with young people in Kansas City.
Five years after the murals were painted, 6 Streets invites us to reflect on their meaning, their legacy, and the ongoing journey toward a more inclusive and connected city.
