Join us for a book signing and lecture with author and local historian David Jackson. David will explore the origin and evolution of the oldest structure on the historic Independence Courthouse Square—the 1859 Jackson County Jail and Marshal’s Home, along with its 19th-century predecessors.

Captured is an in-depth study that offers “skeleton keys” to unlocking the history of early lockdowns, those who defied frontier justice, and the systems and strongmen—and their often-overlooked wives—who worked to maintain law and order in Jackson County, Missouri.
